Interactive Zoom Workshop

Recording Available for Participants and Members
Throughout this program we've been building up to the Turkish Getup, learning and drilling one section at a time as its own exercise.  Here's a recap in order:

Turkish Situp (Day 35)
Turkish Planks (Day 136)
Turkish Kick n Sit (Day 167)

Today, we'll add transitions and put them all together.  If you've been diligent and completed the three listed above, watch this short instruction of how to combine them into the Turkish Getup (1-minute video).

Alternately, a "start-to-finish" explanation is the 5-minute option that follows.

Because there are so many parts to a Turkish Getup, more can go wrong.  Always start bodyweight and increase your kettlebell weight in small jumps (like 1 kilogram at a time, not a 4-kilogram jump).  If you aren't 100% confident in each step, accomplish the same benefits by working the Situp, Plank, and Kick n Sits individually.

Do you care about mobility training?

You should! Mobility isn't just about flexibility; it's about optimizing movement patterns, enhancing performance, and safeguarding against injuries, making it essential for anyone pursuing fitness or martial arts seriously.

Improve Range of Motion

Good mobility allows joints to move freely through their full range, which enhances overall movement efficiency and reduces the risk of injury.

Enhance Performance

It directly supports better technique execution in various exercises and movements, leading to more effective training sessions and skill development.

Injury Prevention

Proper mobility decreases the likelihood of strains and joint problems by ensuring muscles, tendons, and ligaments are flexible and resilient.

Functional Movement

It promotes the ability to perform daily activities and sports-specific movements more effectively, translating to better functional fitness and athleticism.

Balance and Stability

Mobility training often involves exercises that improve proprioception and coordination, contributing to better balance and stability.

Long-Term Joint Health

By maintaining joint integrity and reducing wear and tear, mobility work supports long-term joint health, especially important as we age.

Meet the legend

Steve Cotter

Founder, IKFF
International Kettlebell & Fitness Foundation
Born in New York in 1970, Steve Cotter moved to San Diego, California, in 1982, where he began formal training in martial arts. By the mid-1980s, he was teaching Kung Fu to kids and adults. Transitioning into fitness in his early 30s, he worked with David Weck, the inventor of the BOSU, promoting it nationwide.

An early adopter of kettlebell training, Steve became one of the first senior instructors with Pavel Tsatsouline and Dragon Door/RKC in the early 2000s. In 2008, he founded the International Kettlebell and Fitness Federation (IKFF), bringing kettlebell training to a global audience.

Steve emphasizes holistic well-being in his training. His philosophy integrates martial arts, especially jiu-jitsu, and fitness, with a focus on practical applications for flight or fight.  His approach respects all movement styles, using martial arts as a guiding compass.

Steve's favorite loaded mobility exercises are formulated from his 40 years of martial arts and over 20 years of kettlebell training. He believes that strength, conditioning, and flexibility can be achieved together, and he teaches techniques that keep his body supple, athletic, and injury-free into his mid-50s.
